This Kinesiophobia (fear of movement due to pain) is identified as contributing to the persistence of chronic pain and proposed to be an important link between pain and disability in general populations. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the degree of kinesiophobia in patients with chronic pain, to examine differences in kinesiophobia and other pain-related characteristics between men and women, and to examine differences in pain-related characteristics between patients with high and low levels of kinesiophobia. DESIGN: Postal survey. between kinesiophobia and pain, disability and quality of life in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) detected via cross-sectional analysis and (2) to analyse the prognostic value of kinesiophobia on pain, disability and quality of life in this population detected via longitudinal analyses.

Kinesiophobia does not predict changes in pain intensity. By using a population-based cohort of the general Dutch population, the authors studied whether an excessively negative orientation toward pain (pain catastrophizing) and fear of movement/(re)injury (kinesiophobia) are important in the etiology of chronic low back pain and associated disability, as clinical studies have suggested.
Despite this, it was found that kinesiophobia was independently associated with levels of physical activity and significantly lower levels of physical activity among those with chronic pain. Conclusions: Even though chronic pain was often highly prevalent and persistent, both onset and recovery occurred over time.

Kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing are related to rehabilitation outcomes in chronic pain, but the relationship between kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing, and activity is unclear. 14–17 In the chronic pain population, kinesiophobia is more disabling than pain itself, 15 thus, prolonging rehabilitation and worsening the chronic pain experience. 15,18,19 Due to the association between

The Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK) was developed to measure fear of movement/ (re)injury in chronic pain patients. A previous longitudinal study suggested that kinesiophobia was a better predictor of levels of physical activity than were pain characteristics, such as pain intensity and duration, in older people with chronic musculoskeletal pain . Older people who have a large life space have more opportunities to use various facilities and communicate with Fear of movement/(re) injury in chronic pain: a psychometric assessment of the original English version of the Tampa scale for kinesiophobia (TSK). Pain correlated with functional impairment and depression but not with catastrophizing or kinesiophobia. Disability was correlated with catastrophizing and kinesiophobia.
